MIDDLE SCHOOL CENTRAL REPRESENTATIVE

Julie Kerr I have been involved with math education both as a teacher and a tutor over the past 30 years. My classroom experience has mainly been in the middle grades teaching 5th grade math, pre-algebra, and geometry at St. Richard's Episcopal School, The Middle Years Program at the International School of Indiana, and 7th grade math at Decatur Middle School and Fall Creek Valley Middle School. My tutoring experience has been primarily at the high school level in most subjects and SAT/ACT prep. I have been actively involved in MATHCOUNTS as a coach the past 6 years and with the Math Pentathlon organization over my career as a coach, parent/teacher trainer, NCTM presenter, and division coordinator at the annual competition. I have also coached a GAIM team (Girls' Adventures in Math) and I am still the coordinator at St. Richard's for the Noetic Learning Math Contest administered to grades 2-8.

Jas'Minique Potter My name is Jas’Minique Potter and I am a 7th & 8th grade mathematics teacher at Chapel Hill 7th & 8th Grade Center in MSD of Wayne Township. I served as the Middle School Regional Representative for the past two years. I would like to serve on the board as a bridge for ICTM in communicating with teachers in central Indianapolis. The ICTM organization is often a hidden treasure that offers high quality resources for mathematics teachers; one of my main goals would be to help these resources reach more teachers. I’d also like to contribute to building stronger relationships between ICTM and schools/districts in the central region. Working together with like-minded individuals allowed me to develop skill sets outside of the classroom, and I’d like to continue on that journey. Thank you for considering me.

John Riley

- Masters in Electrical Engineering and Space Systems Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School.

- Ten years active duty as an Officer in the United States Navy

- Nine years as a project and personnel manager (six years as a senior manager at the Indianapolis Star.)

- 15 years teaching High School Math, Physics and Earth Science

- 3 years teaching middle school mathematics.

HIGH SCHOOL SOUTH REPRESENTATIVE

Heather Niehoff This is my 7th year of teaching mathematics at Edgewood High School. This year, I am teaching AP Statistics, ACP Finite, and Precalculus/Trigonometry. Prior to teaching at Edgewood, I was an Adjunct Instructor at Ivy Tech, Bloomington in the areas of mathematics and paralegal studies. I am a graduate of Mitchell High School in Mitchell, Indiana, and Indiana State University. Last semester, I completed the graduate-level mathematics requirements to become Dual Credit certified, and am completing my last class this semester to obtain my Master's of Secondary Math Education from Indiana University. My husband, Ben, and I live in Bloomington. We have four children, three of which live at home, and a daughter and grandson who live in Indianapolis.

SECRETARY

Mike Lolkus Michael Lolkus is a Mathematics Education doctoral candidate in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Purdue University. Michael is a former secondary mathematics teacher, instructional coach and department chair at a high school in Newark, NJ. His current research centers on exploring pre-service mathematics teachers’ experiences with and implementation of social justice mathematics.

PRESIDENT ELECT

Christine Taylor Christine Taylor is an Assistant Professor at Indiana State University. She teaches undergraduate and graduate Mathematics and Mathematics Education courses and holds a M.S. in Mathematics from IUPUI and a PhD in Mathematics Education from North Carolina State University. Christine taught for five years at a community college in the rural South. Most recently, her work includes developing opportunities to link her campus with the community, implementing math clubs for the benefit of community youth and pre-service teachers. Her research interests include how pre-service teachers see themselves as mathematics learners and how to develop and implement sustainable professional development. Christine has worked with pre-service and veteran K-12 teachers and youth in rural, urban, and international settings.

Why I wish to serve: I am a native Hoosier who moved away from Indiana for several years, but chose to come back here to work in mathematics education. I am an ICTM and NCTM member, have presented at ICTM and NCTM conferences, and have published in ICTM and NCTM journals. For the last 4 years I have been grateful to learn about the Board’s work as I served as ICTM’s Secretary. This experience has helped me to see the ways this organization serves our state. I welcome the opportunity to continue my service to the Board in a new role; I will endeavor to continue the work of supporting Hoosier mathematics students and teachers.
